RAISE YOUR VOICE AND HELP STOP SEGREGATION

The Trump Administration is attacking fair housing with a new plan to gut a rule designed to combat segregation. In 2015, under the Obama Administration, the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) established the Affirmatively Furthering Fair Housing (AFFH) rule. It requires municipalities to demonstrate their commitment to integration and equity in order to receive federal funds.

HUD’s proposal focuses more on construction and rehabilitation of homes only serving to increase profits for housing developers rather than protecting people from discrimination and segregation.

"The new rule takes the focus away from preventing segregated living patterns and prioritizes the construction of affordable housing. While affordable housing is certainly an important issue, the AFFH mandate must be focused on the reversal of America’s historically racist housing policy. The proposed rule will let municipalities pay lip service to their AFFH obligations, when they should be taking calculated steps towards removing the barriers to fair housing,” said Chris Riehlmann, Open Communities Director of Fair Housing,
