Learn more about fair housing rights on a federal and local level to understand and recognize violations to take action as a tenant or learn what the responsibilities are as a landlord.
Open Communities' Fair Housing 101 presentation covers the fair housing rights available to us all. This training covers the broad protections in the federal Fair Housing Act, gives an overview of local protections in Illinois as well as in Cook County, and helps community members understand how to recognize violations and take action. Some of the topics include reasonable accommodations for tenants, protections against discrimination based on a person's Source of Income, and the rights of people with prior involvement with the justice system when applying for housing.
This free training is open to all community members who would like to learn more about their fair housing rights (and ways to take action when housing discrimination occurs) and landlords who would like to learn more about their responsibilities under the law. All are welcome! Event will be held in the Commons Meeting Room A&B of the Nile-Main District Library.
