Open Communities' mission is to educate, advocate, and promote just and inclusive communities in north suburban Chicago. Job Description

Community Navigators build professional relationships with previous Open Communities clients and community partners. They do this by understanding fair housing laws, training with eviction prevention resources, and learning how to avoid the unauthorized practice of law. They also assist the Program Manager with developing a referral list of attorneys and other resource providers.

Community Navigators attend community events to inform citizens about Open Communities programs. They also host in-person and virtual educational workshops for communities and partners at various multipurpose community spaces.

Community Navigators make follow-up calls to community members and partners to assure critical services are provided in the office. They perform administrative duties such as processing eviction prevention documents, applications for emergency assistance, and outcome assessments.

Requirements

Qualifications

  •  GED

  •  One - three years previous experience in a role focused on relationship building in diverse communities


Preferred Skills:

  • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills

  •  Ability to effectively present information to a wide variety of audiences

  • Expertise with Microsoft and other standard professional software

  • Excellent research, organizational, and time-management abilities

  •  Ability to inspire and motivate

Working Conditions

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to sit for extended periods and may be required to stand for an extended period. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move items weighing up to 25 pounds. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of the position. Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. This position is required to work some evenings and occasional Weekends.

All eligible persons MUST be fully vaccinated and are expected to travel to Cook County Northern suburbs, including Open Communities office in Evanston.

COVID-19 Policy

In response to this new variant and concerns form staff, clients and board members, Open Communities has decided to move forward with a mandatory vaccination policy. As a condition of employment, all full-time, part-time, temporary, seasonal, on-call employees of Open Communities must receive a COVID-19 vaccine. 

 

To be compliant with this requirement, employees must do one of the following: 
• Provide Open Communities with proof of immunization within the specified timeframe. Proof of immunization must include a copy of documentation showing the vaccine was received, but it should not include any personal health information or family medical history information; or 
• Comply with the designated procedure for obtaining a permissible exemption as described in our full policy. If employee has an approved exemption, employee will not be able to work in the office with other vaccinated employees. They must continue to work remote.
